Tom Cruise Admits Scientology Played a Role in Divorce
Actor Tom Cruise finally admitted that Scientology, which he practices, played a significant role in his divorce from Katie Holmes. In a deposition released to the public by Radar Online, Cruise explained that the practice affected his relationship but noted that daughter Suri never practiced the religion.
"Listen, I find that question offensive," he told lawyers when asked about assertions that Holmes left Cruise to protect daughter Suri from Scientology. "I find it, those statements offensive. Like with any relationship, there are many different levels to it. You know I, I find it very offensive. There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion."
Yet lawyers continued to press Cruise on the issue of why Holmes left and how it affected Suri.

"And Ms. Holmes has never indicated in any way that was one of the reasons she left you? To protect Suri from Scientology?" lawyers asked, according to the deposition's transcript.
"Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes," Cruise admitted.
"Is Suri currently practicing Scientology?" lawyers asked.
"No," Cruise responded.
It's the first time that Cruise admitted his religion played a part in the separation and divorce from Holmes. Cruise has very little to do with Holmes now but manages to spend time with Suri whenever possible, though he has come under heavy criticism for apparently not spending enough time with her. He is currently suing the publishers of "In Touch" magazine for posting a cover of him and Suri with the title "Abandoned by Daddy."
"That is absolutely disgusting," Cruise said during the deposition. "I am a public person. For me there is… I tolerate a tremendous amount and I'm very privileged to be able to have the life that I have, and I believe that. But there is a line that, that I draw for myself, and that's it."
