'True Detective' News Recap: Season 2, Director's Opinion on Clues and Deleted Scene With Rust
The season finale of "True Detective" only aired about four days ago and there is already news on Season 2, the clues never discussed in season one, and a deleted scene featuring Rust Cohle. The show's writer Nick Pizzolatto briefly discussed the direction he plans to go in with the next season of the show in a recent interview.
"Ok. This is really early, but I'll tell you [it's about] hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system," he said.
HBO also fed rabid fans by releasing a 3-minute deleted scene that features detective Rust Cohle discussing his decision not to have children with his girlfriend Lori. This time frame appears to be the 2002 portion of the show right before he breaks up with her. Rust's fear of having children stems from the tragic death of his first daughter. This can be seen in the clip. This probably would have been a part of episode 6 and would have given the audience a bit more insight as to why this relationship did not work out.

"True Detective" director Cary Fukunaga recently did an interview with Vulture where he discussed the reasoning behind some of the clues appearing in the show that never ended up tying into the Dora Lange case.
"Most of that was definitely deliberate- the lawnmower driving in circles at the end of episode seven, the use of spirals and stars. Some of it wasn't intentional, like when the truck was driving by and there's a yellow crown in the background. I've been sent a lot of this stuff because my agent is a huge fanboy," he said.
Much of these clues contributed to creating the atmosphere for the show.
