Trump Tweets Reaction To George Papadopoulos Indictment

President Donald Trump tried to distance himself from a former foreign policy aide who pleaded guilty to perjury over his contacts with Russian. Trump dismissed ex-adviser George Papadopoulos as nothing more than a "low level volunteer" and was already proven to be a liar.

Trump has always utilized his Twitter account not only as a means to communicate with his supporters but as a tool to protect himself and attack his opponents. Which is why it's not surprising that after a new development about Russia's meddling in the election was revealed, the president posted a response.

"Few people knew the young, low level volunteer named George, who has already proven to be a liar," Trump posted on Twitter shortly after 8am local time, adding: "Check the DEMS!"

According to court documents released in Monday, Papadopoulos admitted to meeting with the Russians in order to get "dirt" on election rival Hillary Clinton. Furthermore, he lied about it to federal agents working for special counsel Robert Mueller in his investigation into possible coordination between the Trump election campaign and Russia.

According to Papadopoulos' plea, he was told in April 2016 by an unnamed "professor" that Russia had "dirt" on Clinton in the form of "thousands of emails". The mystery professor was later revealed to be Joseph Mifsud who recently came forward saying that he is just an academic.

Papadopoulos' plea was unsealed on the same day former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and a business associate, Rick Gates, were charged with money laundering, tax evasion, fraud and failing to register as agents of foreign interests. Both men denied the charges pending further investigation.

The "low level volunteer" Papadopoulos is the first person to face criminal charges for involvement the alleged collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. Court documents describe him as a "proactive cooperator" while Trump himself referred to him as an "excellent guy" prior to calling him a liar on Twitter.
