'Twin Peaks' Season 3: Catherine Coulson Who Played Lady Log Dies Ahead of Series' Showtime Version

The Showtime version of "Twin Peaks" will not go on air until 2016 or 2017, but Catherine Coulson, who played Lady Log in the series, died on Monday morning ahead of the airing of the show's third season.

Catherine Coulson, who was known for her queer character in "Twin Peaks," passed away due to cancer at age 71. She was supposed to return for the Showtime version of the series, but he original Lady Log will no longer be there when season 3 airs either next year or in 2017, according to iDigital Times.

In a statement, Lynch talked about Coulson's death and spoke of his departed friend as a "solid gold" person, who was always brimming with love for everyone. He also praised her for her sense of humor and her tirelessness, the report adds.

"Today I lost one of my dearest friends, Catherine Coulson. Catherine was solid gold. She was always there for her friends…," Lynch told Variety. "She was a spiritual person — a longtime TM meditator. She was the Log Lady."

Coulson's husband, Jack Nance, was also part of the original "Twin Peaks" as the character Pete Martell. She was also a thespian in the theater, and she was a fixture at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for 22 seasons. She also had a talent for working behind the camera and she showed this in "Eraserhead" and "Wrath of Khan."

The most prominent character that Coulson portrayed was Log Lady in "Twin Peaks." Her character was an eerie lady who carried a log around and talked to it. Since the people of "Twin Peaks" know that spirits could enter a log, there are some residents like Garland Briggs who believe her. Log Lady seemed to have been affected by her husband's traumatic death, the report relays.

"Twin Peaks" season 3 will be aired on Showtime either in 2016 or 2017. Sadly, Catherine Coulson will no longer be part of the show's revival.
