Tyler Perry Helps Take 'PrayFit' to the Top on Amazon

Health book PrayFit is currently one of the top 50 books sold on Amazon after an endorsement from none other than the man who made Aunt Madea a household name in America.

With the loss of his mother – of whom much of his character Madea is based on – to diabetes in 2009, producer Tyler Perry urged his eight-figure fan base to strive for healthier, more faithful living in one of his weekly-distributed emails.

“My mother had diabetes,” Perry wrote. “She lost her eyesight, lost her kidneys and eventually lost her life… The good news is that you don’t have to have it.”

Explaining how diabetes was a preventable disease through diet and exercise, the famous actor spoke of how angry he became sometimes when thinking about the absence of his mother despite the reversibility of the disease.

“What I know for sure is that God does not make any mistakes. So, I accept His will,” he expressed.

“I gave my mother everything she ever thought she could want, but what I could not give her was her health … She accepted diabetes as her reality and it became her life and her death. She was only 64.”

Asking his audience if this story was their own, Perry pleaded, “Please, don’t let your loved ones go through what my sisters, brother and I have gone through because of losing her.”

“TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!”

Hoping to get his fans on a jumpstart towards a healthier lifestyle, he recommended celebrity trainer Jimmy Peña’s PrayFit.

“This is a good read to get you motivated and started. If you want to take your life back, this book can help you.”

PrayFit encourages Christians to adopt a whole person fitness system designed to strengthen body and deepen faith. The core of the book is about giving your best in two areas that are vital to wellbeing – faith and fitness.

This 28-day plan guides readers of any fitness level to a workout routine complemented with daily devotionals and Scripture verses.

In a previous interview with The Christian Post, the author revealed, “I really believe that it is very important to take care of the body that carries the soul. It doesn’t take faith in Jesus to be fit, but if we have faith in Jesus we should strive to be fit.”

Peña, the Los Angeles-based New York Times bestselling author, serves as an exercise physiologist to Perry and also works with actor LL Cool J and television personality Mario Lopez, both of whom have previously endorsed PrayFit.

Perry’s support of the book has led to an increase in media attention for Peña, with people like Giulana Rancic, host of E! News, tweeting to her 20,000-plus base of followers about the book.

Boxer Robert Guerrero also sported “PrayFit.com” on his trunks for his 12-round, championship fight last weekend on HBO Pay-Per-View. Guerrero, being a believer, had previously endorsed the book as well.

PrayFit gets me on track to start my day off in the right direction,” stated Guerrero. “In boxing, there is no room for error. You have to be not only physically prepared but spiritually strong as well.”

And even American League MVP Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers praised the book noting, “This exciting devotional will enable you to live out the Scripture which says to ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength!’”

The PrayFit team is currently working on a second print project entitled PrayFit Family to be out this fall.

PrayFit Family contains all the ammunition parents need to defeat unhealthy habits in their home. It will include 28 inspired readings for faithful living, questions for family study and discussion, a customizable meal plan to fit any family on any budget, ideas for family activities, and nutrition tips.

The title will be released on Amazon on September 5.
