UEFA Euro 2016 Tournament's Bests Based on Player Barometer: Belgium's Kevin de Bruyne and French Dimitri Payet Lead Rankings
This year's UEFA Euro 2016 tournament has been closely monitoring football stars through a Player Barometer to determine the best individuals in the competition.
In explaining the metrics, UEFA highlighted that this barometer is able to come up with a ranking of players based on their overall performances during the matches.
For the ongoing European tournament, here are the top 5 players as revealed by UEFA's Player Barometer:
1. Kevin de Bruyne (Belgium)
The 24-year-old midfielder climbed four spots to clinch the top spot in the Player Barometer, a separate UEFA writeup indicated. His crosses, shots and assists aided in his notable performance for Belgium's previous games.
2. Dimitri Payet (France)
He previously ranked lower, thanks to Welsch Gareth Bales, but now, Payet has redeemed himself with an amazing play versus the Republic of Ireland. Payet reportedly had 10 crosses, three dribbles and four goal attempts for that game alone.
3. Eden Hazard (Belgium)
The player's most recent feat was during the 4-0 victory of Belgium versus Hungary over the weekend. Hazard was among the attackers during the game, along with teammates De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.
Contributing two goals to the recent win of his team, Hazard was unstoppable on Sunday. Belgium claimed that they have not yet seen him in this form but was stunned with his gameplay that helped the team advance to the quarterfinals.
4. Gareth Bale (Wales)
The Welsch star player, as per the UEFA website, has led his team to a grand victory versus Northern Ireland with his goals, crosses and a great free kick.
Bale considered their latest matchup was a difficult game for the entire team but noted that they tried hard to move the ball and win the match. "We knew they would make mistakes towards the end of the game and that was the case," he added.
5. Toni Kroos (Germany)
Though Kroos did not score any goal in Germany's 3-0 triumph versus Slovakia, he's still a vital part of the team's success. He reportedly provided the tempo for his teammates and allowed them to attack and defend versus their Slovak opponents.
Coach Joachim Low said Kroos has been very helpful to the entire team since the Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup. "He always does well for us. He is very economical in his way of playing. He doesn't make many mistakes," Low added.
