Uncharted 3 Review

Uncharted is arguably the most impressive franchise on the PlayStation 3, and with the release of the third installment in the series Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, the reign of quality gaming on the console continues, according to USAToday.

“It’s official: today marks the arrival of the PlayStation 3’s best franchise,” wrote the news outlet on its website.

This new Uncharted game takes the title’s main character Nathan Drake on a quest to find a lost city on the Arabian Peninsula.

He is accompanied by longtime friend Victor “Sully” Sullivan, a familiar face from the game’s predecessors.

A new villain is introduced named Marlowe who is also looking for this lost city called “Atlantis of the Sands” and seems to have a history with Nathan and Sully.

“Like its predecessors, Uncharted 3 is further proof of studio Naughty Dog’s incredible storytelling skills, and it’s more than just sharp dialogue and a mysterious plot,” wrote USAToday.

The gameplay in the new Uncharted is mostly the same as the previous games including third person shooting, climbing and jumping through environments and figuring out puzzles.

The hand-to-hand combat has received an upgrade as it now involves more enemies and adds some contextual awareness, according to USAToday.

“During an early brawl inside a pub, Nathan slams an enemy’s head onto the bar or smashes a nearby beer bottle over his head instead of simply punching or kicking,” wrote USAToday describing how the character interacts with the environment.

Uncharted 3’s one player campaign mode is worth buying the game alone, but there are also online cooperative missions available to play that give the game more lasting appeal.

“With games such as Battlefield and Call of Duty taking over headlines, it’s easy to get sucked into that first person shooter vortex,” wrote USAToday. “However, be careful. You might be missing out on what is arguably the year’s best game.”
