'Unsung Story: Tale Of The Guardians' Coming To PS4, Xbox One, Switch According To Publisher

The developers of "Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians" has announced that the tactical role-playing game will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Switch despite the game's Kickstarter campaign not making the stretch goals put in place back in 2014.

Little Orbit, which took over the game's development in August, said that current-generation console versions of the game are being developed for a reason close to their hearts. According to CEO Matthew Scott, his days playing "Final Fantasy Tactics" back in the day convinced him that the game's format was quintessential to his enjoyment and thus took over the derelict project.

According to Scott, Little Orbit taking over the project also means canceling or changing some of the campaign's backer rewards. Some of the rewards were "financially wasteful to produce" as the developer puts it because so few backers wanted them. Others weren't properly priced to account for other costs such as shipping and would not be financially sound considering the limited resources available.

The original Kickstarter campaign for "Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians" was launched by Playdek three years ago with plans bring it to mobile devices and PC platforms. However, after gathering over $600,000 in contributions, no new information was released with regards to the game until in February 2016 when Playdek revealed that development had been stopped for lack of resources.

The project continued in development limbo until in September 2016, when Playdek announced a collaboration with another unannounced company to continue the game's development. It was not until August of this year when it was revealed that Little Orbit had taken over the development of the game and that it will make its way to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Aside from the already announced platforms of Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, Little Orbit added that backers of the project will be able to update their platform preferences via a survey. With almost every console on the market already on the list, however, it's very unlikely that backers will be requesting anymore. There is a chance some will be removed though, as in the case of the Kindle and Windows Tablet.

Little Orbit has yet to announce a release date for "Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians."
