US Open 2013 Golf Tournament Update: Weather Delay on Day 1
The 2013 U.S. open got off to a rough start today as wind and rain forced a 3-hour delay. Play had been going on for just two hours when the severe weather delay went into effect.
When play stopped, England's Ian Poulter was in the lead with an impressive three birdies in three holes. However, Nicolas Colsaerts from Belgium was not far behind Poulter, with merely 2 under, SB Nation reported.
Play resumed at 12:10 p.m. after a three-and-a-half hour delay. However, the afternoon weather forecasts are still calling for storms in the area throughout the afternoon.

This year's U.S. Open is being played in suburban Philadelphia at Marion Golf Club. At under 7,000 yards, the course was thought by many to be too small to hold a tournament of this nature. Many competing have never played at Merion before, according to USA Today.
But the course's small size belies it's challenge. As Nick Watney, 2011 WGC-Cadillac Championship winner, explained to USA Today, "I've been reading about how many scoring records are going to be broken."
"I've been around here once. And I think that's insane. It's funny to me. People look at the yardage and think it's going to be easy. Even if it's soft, the greens are sloped. The rough is thick. OK, we'll have wedges into some of the greens, but that doesn't mean you make birdie on all those holes. There's enough tough holes to counteract that."
It will be interesting to see how the weather in Philadelphia will continue to affect play at the 2013 U.S. Open.
