However, not many have condemned Sharapova for underperforming, but have heaped praise on Serena Williams for her blistering form. If Williams is in similar form today then Azarenka will simply be trying to avoid a white wash and get her name on the score board.
Even though Serena's demolition of opponents to the final has been immense, Azarenka has also impressed so far. Although she has faced some tougher matches and just pulled through her tie against defending champion Samantha Stosur in a third set tie-breaker in the quarterfinals. She also scraped through a tight match against Maria Sharapova.
The women's singles final was postponed until today as New York was hit by a tornado warning yesterday as a number of twisters were seen touching down across Queens and Brooklyn. The extreme wind conditions caused all sorts of troubles for the tennis players as they simply attempted to keep control of their shots rather than go all out for winners.
