You could be distracted by the dated quality of the video, or, of course, the mullet. But brush those aside and focus on Steven Curtis Chapman singing "I Will Be Here," the achingly beautiful song he wrote for his wife Mary Beth.

The 1990 love song became an instant wedding classic, as predicted by producer Phil Naish while they were recording it. As Chapman talks about it as a new song, this performance is likely from that year.

The ballad is not only a tender assertion of Chapman's commitment to his wife, but also to his faith. In the early days of his marriage to Mary Beth, his parents divorced. The loss of their marriage made him question everything they taught him, including what he believed about God.

In the face of doubt, he chose to honor his commitments because he believed it was the only way to live a life with meaning. As God committed to us, so he committed to Mary Beth. "I Will Be Here" was his affirmation.
