Show creator Julie Plec revealed some spoilers for Season 7 during the San Diego Comic-Con last month, telling audiences the upcoming episodes will include a number of flashbacks and flash-forwards.

The supernatural drama has already employed the use of flashback scenes spanning several time periods back to the 1950s, and other significant times in the lives of the show's various vampire characters.

Last season, with Bonnie alive and Elena asleep after a spell, the show used a flash forward to move the story ahead.

According to Plec, there will be an even greater number of flashbacks and flash-forwards for the upcoming season.

Actor Michael Malarkey's character Enzo will be in a flash forward showing him with another well-established character on the show. Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will be experiencing flash forwards as well, in a scene where the brothers run from an imminent threat.

Alaric (Matt Davis), whose wife Jo (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) died together with their unborn twins in the previous season, is expected to have a difficult transition into Season 7, and his grief will linger on when the show returns, apart from having to deal with Elena's eternal slumber.

According to Plec, Alaric may express his grief in a number of unconventional methods that involve alcohol, fulfilling secret desires using physics, and using witches to try and contact his dead wife.

Season 7 of "The Vampire Diaries" will premiere on Oct. 9 on The CW.
