Thousands of social networking users have taken to Twitter and Facebook to express their thoughts and even vent their frustrations on what has become the school's second fatal campus shooting in four years.

The campus lockdown is indefinite at this point, with Friday's exams currently on hold after a shooting that has shaken the community.

Two people have been shot dead, and witnesses now believe the person previously described as a white male wearing grey sweatpants, is among those dead.

The second person gunned down has been identified as a police officer, who is said to have been shot in a school parking lot.

As police continue to investigate what went wrong, the community searches for answers.

For many, the shooting has reignited painful memories of the 2007 campus massacre.

Former student Seung-Hui Cho went on a rampage that killed 32 students, and left 25 badly injured.

One supporter tried to make light of the incident while offering support on the university's Facebook fan page.

"Even Though We are going Too Battle with Virginia tech in the sugar bowl in january, my thoughts and prayers go out to them," the user posted.

Although classes for the semester ended yesterday, many students are said to have been on campus studying for finals.

Earlier reports suggested the suspect had fled on foot, but law enforcement now suggest the gunman is dead.
