'Wanted 2' a Possibility, Hints Producer Marc Platt
James McAvoy might probably be widely known by film audiences as the young Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men films, which started with "X-Men: First Class" in 2011. Others, however, might better know him as Wesley in the 2008 action-thriller film "Wanted" which also starred Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman.
It's already been six years since the film premiered and there are continuous rumors about the film's sequel in the making.
Producer Marc Platt had revealed about the possibility of "Wanted 2," saying that the script is already "getting pretty good."
"To do a sequel when it wasn't really set up for a sequel – one of our main characters dies in it. You don't want to just retread a similar story, but when we get the script to a certain bar, there will be a sequel," Platt said. "It's taken a while because it's challenging, as I said, because we lost a main, main character, so where that James McAvoy character goes now … we have good ideas though. It's coming along."
As Platt mentions, the death of Jolie's character, Fox, has put the filmmakers in a difficult spot. With the death of Wesley's mentor, the next challenge would be transition Wesley as a more active protagonist and a more experienced assassin.
Co-creator of the "Wanted" comics and co-producer of the original film would still take part in the creation of the screenplay for the sequel, as Platt points out.
"He's always going to be involved but he's not going to write the screenplay which is far along, as I said, but he's always going to be involved because the tone he puts forth is so much his tone and I think the film captured that dark humor of his really well," he explained.
While Platt confrims the possibility of a second "Wanted" film, it's going to be unknown when it will actually be out. It might be awhile but at least there's the possibility.
