White House Shooting: Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez Arrested, Linked to Abandoned Vehicle
A man has been arrested in connection to the recent White House shooting investigation, the Secret Service announced Wednesday.
Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, 21, was arrested in a hotel near Indiana, Pa., on Wednesday afternoon after local witnesses reported a suspicious-looking person on foot.
Ortega-Hernandez's family reported him missing from his home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on Oct. 31. Ortega-Hernandez has an arrest record in three states.
Authorities linked Ortega-Hernandez to the shooting via an assault rifle and abandoned vehicle, according to The Associated Press.
The investigation began Friday night, when police received reports of gunfire near the White House. The reports came from Constitution Ave NW, near the Ellipse and the Washington Monument.
Reports then detail a car speeding to the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge. The driver then abandoned his vehicle and ran across the bridge. Authorities claim evidence found in the vehicle led them to Ortega-Hernandez.
The Secret Service then announced Tuesday that two bullets had hit the White House. Although the bullets cracked the building's window, they did not completely permeate the ballistic glass.
"A round was stopped by ballistic glass behind the historic exterior glass. One additional round has been found on the exterior of the White House. This damage has not been conclusively connected to Friday's incident, and an assessment of the exterior of the White House is ongoing," read the Secret Service's statement.
President Barack Obama was en route to a summit meeting in Hawaii, and was not at home when the shooting occurred.
According to The Huffington Post, police scoured the Occupy DC encampment Monday after reports suggested Ortega-Hernandez was among the protesters.
