Who are the declared nominees for SBC president?
David Allen
Seminary professor and former pastor David Allen became the fourth person nominated for SBC president when Texas pastor Danny Forshee announced his plan to nominate him.
“He is a leader in the SBC, having served our Lord faithfully as a local church pastor, professor of preaching, and mentor to literally thousands of pastors all over the world,” said Forshee in a statement to Baptist Press.
“I know that Dr. Allen will lead our convention to be unified and laser focused on reaching the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Allen graduated from The Criswell College of Dallas, Texas, and earned his doctorate from the University of Texas at Arlington, majoring in linguistics and expository preaching.
Allen was a longtime member of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary faculty, having served on their board for 12 years and as dean of the School of Theology from 2004-2016.
Allen also became the first dean of the SWBTS’ School of Preaching in 2016, serving until 2022, when he became the leader of the Adrian Rogers Center for Biblical Preaching at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tennessee.
