Willow Smith Clarifies Meaning Of Her 'Summer Fling' Song

Willow Smith, 12-year-old singer, actress and daughter of entertainers Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, recently clarified the meaning of her song "Summer Fling" after many questioned if the young star was singing about inappropriate adult concepts.

"It's just a couple months, But we do it anyway/ It's only for the summer, But we do it anyway," the young Smith sings in the hook of her song.

The singer appeared on the debut of the "The Queen Latifah Show" where she addressed the meaning behind the record.

"Just for clarity, the word fling means something that's short lived," Smith said while on the talk show recently. "And this song is dedicated to all the kids around the world whose summer is never long enough."

A number of people took to YouTube to offer mixed reactions to the young singer's performance.

"She sounds amazing," one person wrote.

However, another person thought Smith was too young to sing the song, despite her explanation of the lyrics.

"She is 12 years old these lyrics are not appropriate for a girl her age," another person exclaimed.

Smith's father, 44-year-old actor Will Smith, previously spoke to New York magazine about the perception that some people may have about he and actress wife Jada forcing their children to follow in their parents' footsteps.

"It may seem like we have pushed our kids into the business, but that is absolutely insane," Will told New York magazine earlier this year. "I would never, ever, push somebody to have their face on a poster that's going to be everywhere in the world."

Earlier this year, Smith opened up about his daughter wanting to back away from entertainment while speaking at Temple University with author Sister Souljah for "Real Talk with Sister Souljah and Will Smith."

"Willow was supposed to be doing 'Annie,' we got Jay-Z to do the movie, got the studio to come in and Willow had such a difficult time on tour with 'Whip my Hair' and she said, 'You know Daddy, I don't think so,'" Smith revealed to the Temple University crowd. "And I said, 'Baby, hold up! I said no, no, no, listen, you'll be in New York with all of your friends and Beyoncé will be there. You will be singing and dancing,' and she looked at me and said, 'Daddy, I have a better idea, how about I just be 12.'"
