Willow Smith New Video 'Summer Fling' Raises Eyebrows

Willow Smith's music video for "Summer Fling" sparked controversy over its suggestive lyrics and adult content this week.

The 12-year-old daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith released the video for the song in collaboration with DJ MVSIC Fabrega, also known as "Melodic Chaotic."

In the clip, Smith is seen in a crop top and jean shorts with platinum blonde hair singing, "Don't really care what we do tonight / Good night kisses if the mood is right, laying on the beach with you wishing this will never end."

Then, the young singer takes on a British accent and raps, "Thanks for the summer fling / It was nice."

The lyrics also include the line, "You tell me that I'm the one, I tell you it's just for fun."

Although Smith and the seemingly older male actor in the music video only hold hands, the word "fling" in the song title alarms many listeners who find it sexual in nature.

As a result, social media has been flooded with comments from users voicing concerns over the song being inappropriate.

"Why has Willow Smith brought out a song about having a summer fling, she's 12," wrote Twitter user Paige.

Another listener called out Willow's parents via Twitter, writing, "I love Will Smith but I don't understand how Willow Smith turned out like this. Where's the parenting at? She's 12."

Alternately, some of Smith's fans defended "Summer Fling."

"I seriously loved the video," wrote Jasmine. "Ignore all the other comments Willow."

Meanwhile, Willow nor her famous parents have commented on the backlash.

"Summer Fling" is not the first time Willow has stirred controversy. The pre-teenager shaved off her hair last year and was met with criticism.

Springing to her daughter's defense, Jada Pinkett-Smith took to Facebook explaining her goal to instill self-control of mind, body and spirit in her children.

"Willow cut her hair because her beauty, her value, her worth is not measured by the length of her hair," the actress wrote at the time.
