Winona Ryder Is Now The Face Of A Brand She Once Shoplifted

In an ironic twist of fate, actress Winona Ryder has just been announced as the new face of Marc Jacobs Beauty.

The 44-year-old actress, who came to fame in the 1990s in such cult favorites as "Reality Bites" (1994), "Edward Scissorhands" (1990), "Heathers" (1988), and Tim Burton's "Beetlejuice" (1988), was convicted of shoplifting from a Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills when she was 30 years old. One of the items that was part of the $5,500 worth of merchandise she took from the store was a $760 Marc Jacobs sweater. The incident occurred on Dec. 12, 2001.

Since then, Ryder and Marc Jacobs have become good friends. On Monday, Jacobs revealed via an Instagram photo that Ryder is the latest face to star in a Marc Jacobs Beauty campaign. He shared a preview of the campaign and wrote:

"It is with great pride (and pleasure) that I 'leak' this image from our upcoming 2016 MARC JACOBS BEAUTY campaign. Photographed here by David Sims and styled by Katie @kegrand, it stars my dear friend (of over two and a half decades), the stunningly beautiful and extraordinarily talented, Winona Ryder."

Jacobs continued to sing praises about his friend, saying, "No one I know could exude the adjectives I've listed as perfectly as Winona does… She does not model the look she gets into the role- and exudes it!" He called her "a brilliant mind" and "a physical beauty like no other," and expressed his delight over working with Ryder on the new campaign.

After the shoplifting incident, for which she was sentenced to three years of probation, charged more than $10,000 in fines, and required to do 480 hours of community service, Ryder relocated near her parents' residence in San Francisco and took a hiatus from acting.

The multi-awarded actress later returned to Hollywood and starred in "Black Swan" (2010) and "When Love Is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story" (2010), both of which earned her SAG nominations.
