Woodward Dream Cruise 2016 to Showcase Classic Cars on Woodward Avenue; Complete List of Events, Schedule and TV Info
The 2016 Woodward Dream Cruise, one of the most prestigious classic car parades in the world, takes place on Woodward Avenue on Saturday.
Getting ready for the weekend
Presenters, enthusiasts, and spectators alike are starting to settle into locations around the area as they get ready for the parade. They have erected tents and other makeshift booths to occupy for the weekend.
Around 1.5 million people are expected to crowd the Woodward Avenue to witness what is considered the largest single-day automotive event in the world, according to the event's website. Now on its 22nd year, the annual event is expected to see around 40,000 classic cars to be presented in the area.
Showcasing classic cars
Running from Pontiac, through Ferndale, and all the way to Detroit, the Woodward Dream Cruise showcases the world's finest classic cars.
These classic cars range from muscle cars, custom and special interest vehicles, street rods, and collector vehicles. These cars are primarily those that were manufactured between the 1950's to 1970's. In addition to classic cars, the Cruise also showcases a wide range of modern vehicles, so long as their owners or manufacturers meet a certain standard of uniqueness in terms of customization.
Starting off way back in 1994 with around 250,000 attendees, the Woodward Dream Cruise has now become an annual event observed every third Saturday of August. Although the official event day falls on Saturday, the affair usually spills over the whole weekend as additional events and more attendees flood the Woodward Avenue.
Events to look forward
Aside from the main parade, the Woodward Dream Cruise has ancillary events that cater to the different interests of its attendees. Most of these events are free. Some of these events are as follows.
