'X Factor' USA: Rachel Crow’s Amazing Story, Performance Recap

Rachel Crow’s childhood has been brought to light as she remains one of 11 contestants on Fox’s “X Factor.”

The 13-year old vocalist reportedly lived in a crack den and suffered from abuse when she was just an infant, according to Crow’s adoptive mother Barbara.

Speaking to the New York Post, Barbara said: “She was born a crack baby and actually lived in a crack house and suffered a lot of abuse.”

Barbara and her husband Kelly formally adopted Rachel one year after having fostered the aspiring singer.

“But she is totally unaffected,” added Barbara of Rachel’s dark past. “She never looks at [the past] in a sad way. She looks at it as that is what made her the person she is.”

Rachel was adopted through Social Services and it is unknown who her biological parents are.

Also speaking to the publication, Rachel reported that she has no desire to meet her biological parents.

“I have two amazing parents already,” said Rachel. “It is crazy because everybody is like, ‘She is not your real mom.’ And I am like, ‘Yea, she is!’”

The reality singing competition “X Factor” prizes the winner with $5 million, which Rachel hopes to covet and put towards other foster children.

“I want to build a foundation that makes them feel good about themselves… Whether they want to sing or act or whether they want to be in sports or go to Harvard,” said Rachel.

On “X Factor” Wednesday, Rachel sang a powerful rendition of Etta James “I’d Rather Go Blind” – awing the audience and making her the top-rated performer of the night.

Twitter was flooded with messages of users complimenting the young singer.

Shanice wrote, “I looooved Rachel Crow tonight on the XFactor!! Go Rachel!”

“You gotta love Rachel Crow on the @theXfactor she’s such a little ball of talen!” wrote Twitter user La Toya.

Bonnie took to Twitter about “X Factor” judge Simon Cowell’s review of the singer: “#xfactir: Rachel Crow picked her own song tonight & it was BRILLIANT! Simon called her a mini Beyonce! She’s just the cutest! Lites (sic) up screen!”

On the bottom of the rankings are contestants Chris Rene and LeRoy Bell.

“X Factor” airs Thursday on FOX at 8 p.m. EST.
