Xiaomi Mi 5 Rumors: Upcoming Smartphone to be Unveiled Next Week?

Rumors have emerged the Xiaomi Mi 5 is likely to be introduced to the public in a special launch event next week.

Chinese electronics company Xiaomi Inc. has recently sent out its press invitations to what is believed to be a product launch event dated next Monday where it will reportedly be unveiling its latest smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 5.

Having been the subject of several leaks preceding its launch, including rumors it is scheduled for an unveiling in November or December, the Xiaomi Mi 5 with its launch event invite may just prove the rumors untrue.

It was also previously reported the handset would be arriving with the as-yet-unreleased Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which is set to begin appearing in smartphones to be released early next year. However, with the earlier launch date and its likely early availability by November, the Xiaomi Mi 5 may carry a different SoC instead, like a deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 chipset.

There are also reports stating that while the Xiaomi Mi 5 will become available on retailer shelves by November, a newer version to be released in 2016 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU.

Reportedly housing an Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a 16MP rear camera with a dual LED flash, as well as Qualcomm's new 3D Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will feature a 5.3-inch Quad HD touchscreen display and carry a 3,030 battery.

The soon-to-be-launched smartphone is expected to sell for $316, the same price as its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi 4.

The launch event is also geared to be the unveiling of another Xiaomi device, the Mi Pad 2, despite earlier rumors emerging it was scheduled for a public introduction sometime in Q3 2015, a period which has already passed. However, with the upcoming unveiling event on October 19, both the Xiaomi Mi 5 and the Mi Pad 2 are likely to be officially uncovered then.
