Zooey Deschanel: Can This ‘New Girl’ Succeed in Her New Show
Zooey Deschanel is what some would call a triple threat. She has stared in hit movies such as 2009’s “(500) Days of Summer,” and more recently this summer’s release of “Our Idiot Brother.” Some may recognize her voice as a part of the collaboration band “She & Him,” whose album sparked a top ten hit last year.
Now, Zooey is hoping the whole world recognizes her in new Fox series “New Girl.”
The thirty-something’s entertainer comes from a long line of family actors with her mom, dad, and sister all each being in the business. Although, many were shocked to see this venture into television for the indie movie “it” girl, Zooey isn’t that all surprised.

Deschanel gives her reasons for joining the cast of the “New Girl.”
"I was always open to TV. I read the script, and it was so great and so funny… That's a really good sign," she said in a press conference.
“New Girl” has Zooey playing Jessica Day, who searches for a new place after a bad breakup with a boyfriend. She ends up sharing an apartment with three bachelors (played by Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, and Lamorne Morris). In this sitcom, the boys go through measures to help Jessica get back on her feet an accustomed to single life.
The early reviews of the pilot already have some labeling the show as the breakout series of the season. If the show is successful, Zooey said it won’t change her. In an interview with USA today, she said she won’t have a driver and chauffeur, will still goes out on weekends with her parents, and insisted that she “isn’t all that famous.”
Fame may be buckling around the corner for Deschanel who if successful will join the ranks of Lucille Ball, Tina Fey, Rosanne, and Mary Tyler Moore, all whom led a sitcom to pop culture history.
‘New Girl’ premieres tonight on Fox at 9 p.m. ET /8 p.m. CT.
