A Story of Renewed Hope
Brent was a warehouse worker who experienced a tragic accident that almost cost him his life. This is his story.
I’m from Queens, New York born and raised there. When it was time to get married and raise a family we moved out east. Just hustling every which way because I wanted to buy a home out on the Island. Went to work, normal delivery. I go to an airline with my tractor-trailer. A forklift came from behind me in reverse and nailed me in my back and got up under my foot and it was pretty brutal. I couldn’t feel my feet, my legs, my hands went numb and I remember screaming you know how am I gonna take care of my kid? How am I gonna take care of her? I was just very scared. I felt like there was no way I was going to be able to provide for her or my wife again. I had multiple fractures in my spine, my neck, and my foot was broken. I was left in a wheelchair pretty immobile depending on other people for everything in daily life. I had to go through numerous operations and previous to the operations I had to go through literally hundreds of steroid injections, epidural injections. I had a long road in front of me and at the end of that road it wasn’t guaranteed that I’d be walking or I would be able to even take care of myself. You all of a sudden are faced with the daunting task of needing a lawyer – an amazing lawyer that’s going to help you and your family get through this.
I was lucky enough to get Buttafuoco and Associates to be my representatives. One of the reasons I chose them was because of the fact that they seem to really care and I got my lawyer's personal cell phone number and he would answer it at seven o’clock on Saturday night, eight o’clock Sunday morning. That was worth more than anything. They wanted to see me get better first because how could we decide how much I need, how much the case is worth, and if I’m still not healthy. Unfortunately, (I believe this was from the stress and from all we were going through) me and my wife, we had a stillbirth at 33 weeks and I just couldn’t believe this was happening to me. The more I go through life the more I realize that the closer my relationship is with God and the more I get on my knees before Him the more He’ll stand before me. Thanks to Mark and his team guiding me to the best doctors that the New York tri-state area has to offer, I'm able to walk and do most things these days. Even though I might not be able to provide as best as I could, they'll still be able to have a college education. I'll still be able to see my girls married and pay for it. It’s not everything but it is something and it does matter and it did help me heal.
