What to Look for in a Health Care Sharing Ministry
A Step of Faith
What started out as a desire to lessen the financial burdens of a small, rural church became a step of faith as Kyle and Colleen said no to insurance and joined Samaritan Ministries.
Kyle was discouraged by the amount of money the church was spending on medical insurance for his young family, and started exploring health care sharing as an affordable way to pay for his family's medical expenses. They joined Samaritan Ministries in 2011.
Throughout their years of being in ministry, as they moved, had babies, and experienced medical needs, Samaritan members have been there for them. Colleen says she likes the freedom and flexibility of being able to choose a doctor they can trust - wherever they call home - with their medical issues, especially when it comes to their kids.
But they say the greatest joy of being a Samaritan member is knowing that they're connected to people who love Jesus, and show it by helping care for one another's needs. Kyle says, "It's really a God glorifying opportunity to partner with people who love Jesus," and know that you are not in this alone.
Health care where YOU’RE in control
Samaritan Ministries is Biblical, affordable health care sharing, where – just like Kyle and Colleen – you’re in control of your medical care, including:
- Maternity care
In 2022, Samaritan members shared more than $51 million in maternity needs – that’s a lot babies! Shareable maternity needs include bills for prenatal care, including chiropractic and massage, delivery, and one postnatal care visit, and that’s whether you choose a hospital birth or a home birth with a doula and midwife. - Natural approach to health care
Chiropractic care, therapeutic massage, naturopathic care, and supplements are a few examples of how you can take control of your health care and not bear the entire cost alone. Samaritan members also share expenses related to non-conventional treatments, and may even help with travel costs if treatment is outside your community. - Emergency care
Consider this – a medical emergency arises. You choose any hospital you want and don’t have to worry about what’s in-network and what’s not when you get there. You just focus on your loved one.
How health care sharing with Samaritan Ministries works
- You have a medical need. There are no networks, anywhere. You choose the doctors, hospitals, and treatments that are right for you.
- Your need is shared. Medical bills are sent to Samaritan Ministries, and they notify fellow members to pray for you and send money directly to you for your qualifying bills.
- Your bills get paid. Use the money received to help you pay your medical bills.
