2017 Ford Escape SUV with Start-Stop Capability Debuts in Los Angeles

The revamped 2017 Ford Escape SUV with an added start-stop capability was finally unveiled on Monday in Los Angeles.

Car enthusiasts finally laid their eyes on the 2017 Ford Escape ahead of the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. The fourth-generation Escape, which boasts of a new look and two new engines, will be released next summer, according to USA Today.

Ford has made its biggest move to venture into fuel-saving technology with the launch of the 2017 Escape. The carmaker will release 275,000 units of the new SUV with the start-stop technology, the report details.

Customers can choose to have the standard 1.5-liter turbocharged engine on the SE and Titanium variants, or the 2-liter twin-scroll turbocharged engine that can put out 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque.

The start-stop system of the 2017 Ford Escape automatically switches the engine off for 16 minutes per day when the driver is idle. It also automatically starts the engine when the car needs to accelerate, the report explains.

Among the aesthetic updates found in the 2017 Ford Escape are its trapezoidal grille, sculpted hood, new center stack and center console, improved media bin, and redesigned gear shifter. All these updates create a cleaner look for the new SUV, The News Wheel reports.

The 2017 Ford Escape also has new technology including the Lane-Keeping Aid, Lane-Keeping Alert, Enhanced Active Park Assist, Driver Alert System, and an Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning. The SUV also has the SYNC Connect that allows drivers to remotely turn on the engine, lock the car, and perform other tasks, the report details.

The newest Escape is available in White Gold, Lightning Blue, and Canyon Ridge color variants. Customers can also choose from six new wheel designs for the car, the report adds.

As of now, the pricing of the 2017 Ford Escape is still unavailable. The company is expected to announce the pricing details when the release date draws near.
