343 Industries Reveals Updates 'Halo 5,' 'Halo Wars 2,' and 'The Master Chief Collections'
A slew of new changes is slated to arrive on a number of "Halo" titles including "Halo 5," "Halo Wars 2," and "Master Chief Collections." This was announced by developer 343 Industries during a livestream held this week.
First off is the latest entry in the core franchise, "Halo 5." The game is slated for an Overtime content update which will feature 4K upgrades for Xbox One X owners, updated weapon tuning, and the return of the "Oddball" multiplayer mode. New skins will also be made available following the update's launch next month.
The content update will see the addition of a Local Server app. The feature allows players to host a local server on a Windows 10 PC on the same network as Xbox One consoles for low-latency multiplayer matches.
"Halo Wars 2" will also receive enhancements for the Xbox One X. Additionally, will also get online cross-platform compatibility between PC and Xbox One as well as the Xbox Arena, which allows players to organize and host their own online tournaments.
Finally, there's the "Master Chief Collections," the collection of the first four "Halo" titles which were re-released on the Xbox One back in 2014. All four games will also receive updates to make the Xbox One X-ready as well as take advantage of Xbox platform advancements since its original launch.
343 Industries also revealed their plans to implement a "public flighting program" which will allow it to add iterative patches and updates in the future while at the same time testing them in a large-scale environment. The first of these updates are expected to arrive next spring.
In addition to the updates, 343 Industries also announced the "Halo" World Championship 2018 which will have qualifiers in Europe, Australia/New Zealand, Latin America, and North America. The Finals will take place this weekend and will be streamed on Mixer and Twitch.
