ABC Cancels Police Procedural Drama 'Castle' After 8 Seasons; Cast Reacts
'Castle" Season's 8 last airing is on Monday, May 16. The segment titled "Crossfire" will serve as its series ender.
It has finally been confirmed: ABC's hit police procedural drama TV series "Castle" will not be returning for Season 9.
Sources from Variety said that the show's last airing would be this Monday, May 16. The segment titled "Crossfire" will serve as its series ender.
The news comes after the shocking announcement from lead star, Stana Katic, who previously announced her departure. In an interview with Deadline, the 38-year-old chose to keep mum on the details regarding her exit.
"Rather than distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I'm very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show. Thank you to the fans," Katic, who plays Kate Beckett in the series, said instead.
Negotiations with Katic's co-lead star, Nathan Fillion (who plays the role of the titular character) and the rest of the cast have failed to pull off. However, before the cancellation was announced, ABC had reportedly closed the deal with Fillion to appear for another season.
Katic recently went over to her social media to offer a personalized note to fans, cast and crew following the news.
Seamus Dever, who takes on the part of Ryan, posted on Instagram a grand cast photo which can be seen below:
Series creator Andrew W. Marlowe also took to his Twitter to share his sentiments.
The rest of the cast, including Molly Quinn (Alexis Castle) and Toks Olagundoye (Hayley Shipton) expressed their gratitude for being part of the show as well. For the meantime, the show airs next week with the finale which is expected to see Castle and Beckett going all out to take down LokSat. However, things will quickly go down south when an unforeseen development hit their way.
"Castle" Season 8 airs for the last time this Monday, May 16, at 10 p.m. on ABC. Stay tuned for more updates.
