Air Jordan 12 'Flu Game' 2016 Release Date, News: Latest Version of Popular AJ 12s Arriving in May

The latest iteration of the cult-favorite Air Jordans made famous by NBA legend Michael Jordan back in 1997 are reportedly hitting store shelves in late May.

According to Kicks on Fire and Complex, both of which have recently shared photos of the much-coveted Air Jordan 12 "Flu Game" shoes, a 2016 version is scheduled to arrive at retailers on May 28. While there are still more than three months to go before the expected release date, Complex has released photos of the Air Jordan 12 "Flu Game" colorway that will soon drop, and it appears that the remastered version of the beloved Air Jordans essentially keeps it classic profile.

The new Air Jordan 12 is clad in the iconic red and black color combination favored by Jordan for his Air Jordan sneakers. Most of the shoe's upper portion is black, including the tongue and the inner lining, while the forefoot, outsole, sides, and rear portion are clad in red. There are also red accents on the tongue and the pull tabs. Fans of the classic Air Jordans will be glad to know that, unlike the last version — the 2009 retro release, which used nubuck for the upper black portions of the shoe — the 2016 "Flu Game" is clad in traditional premium tumbled leather. According to the photos released by Complex, the 2016 release comes in the Nike brown box similar to that of the French Blue 12s.

The "Flu Game" Air Jordans got their name from the 1997 NBA Finals Game 5, when Jordan played against the Utah Jazz while exhibiting flu-like symptoms. In 2013, the shoes that he wore during that game were sold at auction for $104,765.

The Air Jordan 12 "Flu Game" 2016 has an expected retail price of $190 and will be available at select Nike stores on May 28.
