Al Roker Oversleeps and Misses Morning Show: First Time in 39 Years

NBC weatherman Al Roker admitted on Tuesday that he missed worked after oversleeping.

Roker is responsible for two morning slots everyday. First he appears on "Wake Up With Al" to alert people of the weather before they head off for the day. Later, he appears on the "Today Show."

But there was no Al to wake people up or report on the weather Tuesday. The NBC weatherman instead overslept and then admitted his error on Twitter.

"After 39 years, it happened. I overslept and missed a show. Missed #WUWA," Roker posted on his Twitter account. "But will be on time for @today."

"Wake Up With Al" begins at 6 a.m. ET. Roker did in fact arrive on time for the "Today Show," which does not begin until 7 a.m. Once he arrived on the set, he posted a Vine video of himself still yawning. The Vine video became a huge, viral Internet hit. The "Today Show" was the first to alert of Roker's jokester ways.

Al Roker was "joking this morning that he's going to change #WUWA to, 'Al Wake Up!!!'" show producers posted on Twitter. Thanks to the user feedback he received from others, he also decided to ask others about their oversleeping stories.

"Wow. My oversleeping and missing #WUWA really has blown up on Twitter. So tell me your oversleeping story," he wrote.

Even his co-worker Savannah Guthrie poked fun at the news host, suggesting that he was no longer someone that could be counted on.

"Whoa, you know those people you can set your watch to? The always on time people?" she teased on her Twitter account. "Al Roker USED to be one of them."

Roker admitted that he had been so good about waking up in the past that had never needed to set up a backup alarm before.
