Amazon 'Top Gear' Premiere Date, Details: New Motoring Show From Former 'Top Gear' Hosts To Air Later This Year

Jeremy Clarkson was booted out of "Top Gear" last year after allegedly attacking producer Oisin Tymon, but fans of the long-time motoring show host need not despair as Clarkson will soon host a new show, this time for Amazon Prime. The 55-year-old broadcaster/journalist has even managed to lure fellow former "Top Gear" hosts James May and Richard Hammond to Amazon and the three are reportedly currently working on their as-yet-untitled new show.

This is what is known so far about Clarkson's forthcoming Amazon motoring program.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May have not announced the title for their new Amazon Prime show, though The Week speculates that it may be called "Gear Knobs," a name that was trademarked by Clarkson's lawyers. However, in 2015, Clarkson himself shot this rumor down, tweeting: "I see that many people think our new show is called Gear Knobs. Well you heard it here first. It isn't."

Format

The show is expected to follow the same format as "Top Gear," though reports indicate that the masked driver The Stig will not be involved. It is unclear whether 'Star in a Reasonably Priced Car' and other "Top Gear" segments will remain with BBC's "Top Gear" or will make their way to the new show. Former "Top Gear" executive Andy Wilman has been attached to produce the Amazon motoring series.

The new auto show will be made available exclusively to Amazon Prime customers. Those without Amazon Prime accounts can sign up for the service to be able to watch the new series using various apps and devices.

Reports have confirmed that Clarkson, Hammond, and May have signed up for three seasons with each episode consisting of 12 episodes. Each episode will be about an hour long.

Unlike most shows from streaming services, the new series will not drop all 12 episodes of each season at once. Rather, the show will release one episode each week.

Premiere Date

Although no official release date has been announced, the new show is expected to air later this year. According to Digital Spy, it will likely be released in the fall.
