Android 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date News: Rolling Out on October 5

Google will begin rolling out the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Oct. 5, based on information leaked out last week.

The first recipients of the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system will be Nexus devices. Last week, telecom carrier Telus tipped that Google will start rolling out the new OS on Oct. 5 after finishing three developer previews, according to NDTV.

Canadian telecom provider Telus first presented a list of Nexus devices that will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Oct. 5. The mobile carrier later on took down that list, but it was too late because the leaked date has already been circulated. Google, however, has not confirmed the rumored release date of the latest Android OS for the said Nexus devices.

Based on the leaked information, Android 6.0 Marshmallow would first reach the units LG Nexus 5, Motorola Nexus 6, Asus Nexus 7 (2013), and HTC Nexus 9. As expected, the LG Nexus 4, Asus Nexus 7 (2012), and Samsung Nexus 10 will not receive the updated Android OS, the report details.

During today's Google event in San Francisco, the search giant unveiled both its flagship smartphone Nexus 6P and the Nexus 5X. The two new devices will serve as the "showcase" units for the newly launched Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Neowin reports.

The Nexus 6P boasts of a 5.7-inch display, while the smaller and more affordable Nexus 5X has a 5.2-inch display. While these new handsets are pre-installed with the updated software, the rest of the aforementioned Nexus devices will receive the new OS next week.

The new features of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow include improved app permissions, new Chrome feature for Android users, Google Now on Tap, new Web link handling features, new fingerprint APIs for developers, integrated Android Pay, and battery-saving features. Google has also added a new memory manager, app drawer, support for Type-C USB ports, and auto backup and restore for apps.
