'Anti-Rape' Underwear Gives Rapists the 'Shock of Their Life'
Indian engineers working on a new lingerie invention that helps prevent sexual assault have promised that predators are in for the "shock of their life."
The number of sexual assaults that have occurred over the past few months in India have drawn increased public attention. For one group of student engineers, the solution could be in an inventive piece of lingerie.
"The lingerie with global positioning system, global system for mobile communications and also pressure sensors is capable of sending shock waves of 3,800 kV as well as alerts to parents and police," student inventor Manisha Mohan, who helped to develop the concept, said during a recent interview with The India Times.

Censors are located in key parts of the garment and indented to prevent sexual assault. It has been labeled as "anti-rape" underwear.
"A person trying to molest a girl will get the shock of his life the moment pressure sensors get activated," Mohan explained, "and the GPS and GSM modules would send an SMS (to the Indian emergency number) as well as to parents of the girl."
At least two girls took part in developing the solution, according to the Daily Mail. Mohan attests that the invention is her response to learning that "cheerful smiles" do not go far in the real world.
"Studying in a convent girls school, we were always taught to be good to everyone around and bear a cheerful smile," Mohan said. "After stepping into the real, cruel world we realized that our smile could not last for long as the threat to our purity and integrity always lingered on."
She suggested that the invention is a good idea because it takes the government too long to react and make policy.
"Since the law makers take ages to come up with just laws and even after that, women are unsafe. Hence, we have initiated the idea of self‐defense which protects the women from domestic, social and workplace harassment," she added.
