Apple May Introduce Wireless Charging for iPhone and iPad in 2017

Apple may introduce the radical new wireless charging technology for its iPhone and iPad in 2017, based on the latest reports.

Bloomberg says Apple is currently coordinating with its partners in the United States and Asia to come up with a new wireless technology for its next iDevices. While the Samsung Galaxy S6, Lumia 1020, and Google Nexus 5 already have this technology, there are still a number of high-end flagship smartphones without this feature, according to Gadgets 360.

The wireless charging technology still has a few limitations. One of which is the longer time needed to fully charge a device. Another is the inconvenience of having to put the smartphone on top of a wireless charging dock, the report explains.

Fortunately, there have been some developments with the charging technology. Some companies have opted to embrace the QuickCharge technology, instead of wireless charging. This way, the smartphone is still plugged to a wall socket, but the charging time is significantly lesser, the report details.

Apple, however, may come up with a totally different and truly wireless solution. Bloomberg says the 2017 iPhone and iPad will be able to charge even away from a charging mat, Alphr reports. The Cupertino-based tech giant is reportedly trying to come up with a solution that will address the loss of power when the device is taken away from the power source.

Still, Apple's rumored solution to technical barriers is not without a disadvantage. Wireless charging may entail some negative health effects as the process involves transmitting energy through the air. For this reason, the company will have to come up with a much safer option for its customers.

There are a few indications that Apple has been gearing up for iPhones and iPads with wireless charging technology in the past few years. In 2010, the company unveiled a concept wherein a smartphone could charge from an iMac computer even when the two devices are one meter apart.

For now, iPhone and iPad fans will have to wait until 2017 to see if Apple will indeed introduce wireless charging technology for its devices. More details on the upcoming feature are expected to surface in the coming months.
