Arnold Schwarzenegger Says Next 'Terminator' Film Will Ignore Events Of 'Terminator: Genisys'
It's official: the next "Terminator" film will ignore the events of the 2015 franchise flop that is "Terminator: Genisys." This is according to Arnold Schwarzenegger who spoke about the plans for the upcoming sci-fi film to be overseen once again by James Cameron who created the franchise.
At the "Experience With Arnold Schwarzenegger" event held in Birmingham, UK, the Austrian actor was asked by fans about the next movie in the franchise. This was when 70-year-old action icon confirmed that the upcoming film will have nothing to do with Genisys and that it won't just be titled "Terminator 6."
There has been some speculation on whether the film will happen at all given that "Terminator: Genisys" was supposed to be the first in a new Terminator trilogy. However, it appears that the film's dismal performance in the box office forced the people behind the franchise to reconsider.
The film will also reunite Schwarzenegger with fellow "Terminator" star Linda Hamilton. According to the actor, Hamilton had already started training for the role of Sarah Connor in the film.
While Schwarzenegger's involvement in the film was already teased earlier this year, Hamilton's return was only confirmed by Cameron just last week. While the character of Sarah Connor has appeared in a number of films, the most recent of which was played by Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke, Hamilton's last played the role back in 1991's "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," arguably the best film in the franchise.
The upcoming will reportedly be directed by "Deadpool" director Tim Miller with the story supervised by both Miller and Cameron. The film will also follow television-style writers' room which has been quite popular with big-movie franchises in recent years.
Among the writers who will join Miller and Cameron include DC veteran David Goyer, Cameron's "Dark Angel" collaborator Charles Eglee, and Josh Friedman, creator of the "Terminator" TV spinoff "The Sarah Connor Chronicles."
