Australian Open 2016 Women's Final Live Stream, Preview: Williams vs Kerber
This year's edition of the Australian Open has been full of surprises, some drama, and also the expected outcomes. The women's final will be featuring two ranked players with completely different winning histories.
Number 1 ranked Serena Williams will be aiming for her 22nd tennis Grand Slam win, while seventh ranked Angelique Kerber is hoping to win her very first. But what makes this final a very interesting one is the fact that everyone wants to see the underdog win.
Williams came into this tournament as the favorite, even though the best of women's tennis were all here with the objective of defeating her. As for Kerber, the road to the final was a lot easier than she expected, with only Number 14 Victoria Azarenka as the most challenging, so far. Without any doubt, though, she'll be playing the biggest game of her career so far in facing Williams.
No one will argue that Williams is ahead of any stat and has all the advantages against Kerber, but in so many times, the pressure of being the one expected to win can be a bit overwhelming. That right there is something that the 28-year-old German should capitalize.
But it should be an uphill climb for her. Williams is the most powerful women's tennis player in the world and that will be showcased in the final. Kerber should be looking out for the American's first-serve points and groundstrokes.
Although Saturday's game will be the very first Grand Slam final for Kerber, she definitely is no pushover in this one. Aside from the fact that she's a consistent top 10 player, she also has the advantage of going up against Williams in major tournaments, though she only won one out of six encounters.
At this point, it is safe to bet for Williams to win, but as proven time and time again, the law of averages will finally catch up with her. An underdog playing on the big stage is a very dangerous foe, whatever sport or competition it is.
