'Avatar 2' Spoilers: James Cameron Says He's Aware of High Expectations

Now that the sequel of "Avatar" is currently being developed, the director of the film shared some details about the upcoming film.

The previously released film was able to garner a successful turnout, becoming one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. With that, James Cameron, the director of the upcoming film, explained that he is aware of the high expectations for the project.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Cameron stated, "Obviously, expectations are going to be very high on these films, especially on Avatar 2, to make sure it wasn't just some big fluke the first time. So we've got to deliver. I've created a nice rod for my own back, so they say."

With that, it was revealed that the many delays on the film are due to the lack of technology available to create his vision for the film. It was stated that "Avatar 2" will be exploring the oceanic universe of Pandora. In order to present the oceans of Pandora, Cameron needed a special kind of technology.

In addition, he plans on producing the rest of the installments right away. He already has scripts for the third and fourth installments of the film, which will enable him to keep a consistent design process.

It was also confirmed that Sam Worthington will be portraying the role of Jack Sully, while Zoe Saldana will continue her role as Neytiri. Cameron also confirmed that another familiar face will be joining the cast. It was revealed that Sigourney Weaver will also be present in the upcoming installment. This has surprised fans since her character was last seen meeting her end in the previous installment. Fans will just have to wait and see how her character will be revived in the upcoming film.

"Avatar 2" is expected to hit theaters on Dec. 25, 2017.
