'Avatar 2' Release Date Shelved, Not Out For Christmas 2017

The release of the sequel for the 2009 epic science fiction "Avatar" is going take longer than expected as reports said that the movie has been pushed back. The Wrap first released the report saying that the second movie will not be ready by its expected release date, which was supposed to be in Christmas 2017.

According to a report by Stuff, "Avatar 2" was supposed to hit theaters by Christmas 2016. But by early 2015, another round of reports came saying that the first of the new trilogy of "Avatar" will be delayed.

Slash Film detailed that the release date of the second film was never really confirmed by 20th Century Fox. But director, writer, and producer James Cameron had previously hinted that they were aiming for the holiday release window. But since that has been changed now, there is no certain possible date on when "Avatar 2" might come to life.

A report from i09 noted that the delay of the film does not really come as a surprise anymore as it has already been rumored for the past few years. The sequel was rumored for 2014, 2015, 2016 and most recently 2017. The studio also did not make any comments on the report of delay. What everyone should remember though is that Fox chairman-CEO Jim Gianopulos once said that Cameron is moving at his own pace. With that, fans will just have to wait.

There are speculations though that the cause of delay for "Avatar 2" has something to do with the Disney film "Star Wars Episode VIII." Christian Today detailed that the movie will be released on Dec. 15, 2017. If both films will have the same release date, the attention will be divided and competing against each other for IMAX and 3D tickets.

But then again, previous reports revealed that Cameron planned to shoot "Avatar 2" and the two follow-up films at the same time and then release them one year apart. This means that Cameron is filming a total of three films all at once. It's no wonder then why it gets delayed so often.
