'Avengers: Infinity War' Inspired By Heist Films? Director Clarifies
Ever wondered how a heist film would turn out if Danny Ocean wore Iron Man's armor? Fans are about to find out because according to "Avengers: Infinity War" directors Joe and Anthony Russo the film is Thanos-heavy heist film.
In a recent interview with CNET, the Russo brothers revealed that the superhero film borrows heavily from the heist film genre with the introduction of Thanos as the main character. With Josh Brolin finally debuting as the purple alien, his search for the Infinity Stones almost makes him the protagonist of his very own heist film.
"With 'Infinity War,' the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he's entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he's almost one of the leads," said Anthony Russo. "We've shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he's going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past."

According to him, the entire movie has that energy of the bad guy is one step ahead of the heroes. They looked at several movies that had the same heist-style energy in them and used them as inspiration for "Avengers: Infinity War." Anthony also made comment on drawing inspiration from the comics for both story and technology used in the films.
"We also look into the comics themselves for ideas," he said. "We may end up doing a different iteration, but a lot of the ideas are sourced from the comics."
Marvel already dabbled in the using the heist genre with "Ant-Man." However, considering that the stakes are higher in their upcoming film which involves life-or-apocalypse themes, it will likely give a different feel than "Ant-Man."
"Avengers: Infinity War" is set to hit theaters on May 4, 2018.
