'Avengers: Infinity War' Spoilers: 'Marvel Universe Unites' In 'Infinity War,' Joe Russo Reveals

Though there's still more than two years to go before Marvel Studios begins wrapping up its Marvel Cinematic Universe series of films with "Avengers: Infinity War," fans have already been treated to some inside information on the two-part Marvel magnum opus.

Speaking from the New Orleans WizardWorld, director Joe Russo, who has helmed "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" with his brother Anthony, with whom he is set to direct "Avengers: Infinity War - Part I" and "Avengers: Infinity War - Part II," told Comic Book Resources, "The concept of Infinity War is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you've ever seen, and we're going to honor that concept."

"We're just going to approach the cosmic side with the same fervor that we did the earthbound work we've been doing," he added. Joe also revealed that he and Anthony are aiming at bringing a "psychological realism" to the films, adding that "a naturalism" isn't possible, as the whole Marvel universe only exists in the realm of science fiction. But a "psychological realism" is plausible, and this, according to Russo, will be the directors' focus.

Asked whether or not the Guardians of the Galaxy will be joining the Avengers in "Infinity War," the director answered that that would have to remain a surprise. He did, however, give fans something definite to look forward to, saying, "People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie."

In a later Comic Book Resources article, the Russos revealed what Joe meant by fans not being disappointed, saying: "We have so many characters we're dealing with. We're breaking ground on 'Avengers: Infinity War.' We have a board with 67 characters on it."

"Avengers: Infinity War - Part I" is set to land in cinemas on May 4, 2018. "Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2" is scheduled for release on May 3, 2019.
