Avicii News: DJ Announces His Retirement
After eight fruitful years in the music industry, Avicii has recently announced his retirement, clarifying that he might return sometime in the future.
In a statement on his official website on Tuesday, the 26-year-old disc jockey thanked his fans, family, and friends for the support that was showered to him all throughout his career. "I've decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last shows. Let's make them go out with a bang," he wrote.
He also thanked the people who worked with him and mentioned some of his team members who helped make his shows a success.
Born Tim Bergling, the artist started making music when he was only 18 years old and according to The Huffington Post, he has struggled with a lot of health issues over the past couple of years.
While being a DJ always involved partying, booze, and late night sessions with friends, Avicii admitted earlier that his hectic lifestyle did a lot to make his health decline. In 2012, he was hospitalized for 11 days for acute pancreatitis and in 2013, he fell back on the hospital bed for issues with his gallbladder. Doctors advised him to undergo surgery for the removal of his gallbladder but he refused.
Finally, Avicii cancelled his Ultra Music Festival show in Miami in March 2014 as he had to be brought to the hospital where doctors finally removed his gallbladder and ruptured appendix.
Despite the sad news, Avicii said on his statement that he can never say goodbye to the industry that gave him his big break. "One part of me can never say never, I could be back...but I won't be right back," he said.
Meanwhile, producers, dancers, friends, festival goers, and fans alike took to social media to express their feelings about Bergling's decision. While some fans disliked the idea, a lot of people showered support and understanding for his early farewell.
According to The Billboard, he Chainsmokers, Deadmau5, Nicky Romero, Louis Vivet, Steve Aoki, and Electrizoony among others said they're wishing him the best in the new direction of life that he has chosen.
