Avril Lavigne's Ex Deryck Whibley Hospitalized After 'Hard Boozing'
Avril Lavigne's ex-husband Deryck Whibley was hospitalized after hitting "rock bottom" recently.
The two singers married in 2006, but split four years later. On Sunday, Whibley opened up about his "hard boozing" in a candid post entitled "Rock Bottom," complete with shocking photos. In the post, the 34-year-old lead singer for Sum 41 revealed his time in intensive care, admitting that one more drink could end his life.
"The reason I got so sick is from all the hard boozing I've been doing over the years," Whibley penned. "It finally caught up to me. I was drinking hard every day. Until one night. I was sitting at home, poured myself another drink around midnight and was about to watch a movie when all of a sudden I didn't feel so good. I then collapsed to the ground unconscious."
After a week of hospitalization, Whibley said he awoke without any knowledge of what had happened- his liver and kidneys had "collapsed."
"Needless to say it scared me straight," he wrote. "I finally realized I can't drink anymore. If I have one more drink the docs say I will die."
Additionally, Whibley's post revealed several photos taken of him in the hospital connected to an IV with several wounds on his body. In conclusion, Whibley urged fans to drink responsibly.
"I didn't, and look where that got me," he warned, before promising readers a new album as well as a tour coming soon.
Shortly after Whibley's post, Lavigne tweeted support of her ex.
"Spoke to @Sun41 Deryck today. I am so proud of him. He is family to me and always will be. #StayStrongDeryck," the singer wrote.
"Hope you get well soon! @sum41 #StayStrongDeryck," Lavigne later added.
Today, Lavigne is remarried to Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger.
