Baltimore Orioles: Yovani Gallardo Has Right Biceps Tendinitis, Placed on DL
The Baltimore Orioles needs to look for an immediate replacement for starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo if they want to maintain their hold on the top spot of the American League East. The right-hander was placed by the team on the 15-day disabled list after learning that he has shoulder tendonitis. The announcement was made on Saturday, although the team declined to offer any details as to when he's expected to return.
Gallardo will be undergoing an MRI today in order to figure out which course of action is needed in the coming days. The injury is a big blow for the team since he is so far their best pitcher out there. Team manager Buck Showalter said in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated that no one from the team actually knows how the injury got to Gallardo. "Until we get the MRI and Dr. Jacobs sees it, you don't know exactly what it is," Showalter added. He said that Gallardo didn't complain about any pain before the team's game on Friday.
In four starts in the young season so far, Gallardo is 1-1 with 7.0 ERA.
Per Baltimore Sun, he still played in last Friday's 4-2 defeat of the Orioles against the Kansas City Royals but was not able to finish the game. He was forced out by the team's medical staff when he complained of some discomfort in his throwing shoulder in the pregame warm-up. He played in the first two innings but that was it.

Gallardo hasn't complained about any pain or suffered injury on his arm all throughout his career, so this would be a first time for him to be put on DL because of a problem in his arm. He's been a workhorse all his career, joining the Orioles after spending a season with the Texas Rangers last year.
