Baseline Killer Sentenced to Death by Phoenix Jury
The so-called “Baseline Killer” has been sentenced to death by a jury in Arizona.
Mark Goudeau, 47, went on a killing spree and murdered nine people in the Phoenix area. The death penalty verdict was reached by the jury a month after he was found guilty of nine murders and 58 other charges, which included kidnapping and rape.
Police named the killings after Baseline Road, which was where many of the attacks took place. Goudeau carried out the attacks only a few miles away from his home.

Goudeau became eligible for the death penalty after his murder convictions. He had been serving a 438-year sentence for sexual assault in 2005 related to the Baseline Killer attacks.
Prosecutors described Goudeau as a “ravenous wolf” with a hunger to rape women and kill those who do not submit to him. His victims suffered unimaginable terror and anguish before they were killed.
"He enjoyed the power and dominion he exercised over these victims," prosecutor Patricia Stevens told jurors. "He enjoyed the threats of force, the threats of death."
