'Batman: The Killing Joke' News: Barbara Gordon to Be Played by Tara Strong

New DC animated film "Batman: The Killing Joke" will bring a new perspective to Barbara Gordon's story.

Fans of the DC comics are aware that the graphic novel titled "Batman: The Killing Joke" is a dark approach to the Joker. The novel portrayed a gruesome treatment of Barbara Gordon, also known as Batgirl.

While the graphic novel had fans irate about how female characters were treated in the story, the upcoming animated film is expected to correct the novel's approach. It was stated that the film will include a 15-minute prologue about Batgirl's story.

With that, fans will get to know more about Batgirl and how she plays an important part to the story. DC previously revealed details about what to expect from the film. It stated, "The animated adaptation of Batman: The Killing Joke is executive produced by Bruce Timm and will retell this classic tale in an exciting new way. It'll also feature an original 15-minute prologue that helps set up the story, giving even longtime fans of the story something new to look forward to."

In addition, the animated film is expected to bring the original cast of "Batman: The Animated Series." It was stated that Mark Hamill will take on the role of the Joker, while Kevin Conroy portrays Batman. As for Batgirl, the role will be portrayed by Tara Strong.

The president of Warner Brothers Animation & Warner Digital Series, Sam Register, expressed their excitement for the film. According to Entertainment Weekly, he said, "The Killing Joke is revered by the fans, particularly for its blunt, often-shocking adult themes and situations. We felt it was our responsibility to present our core audience — the comics-loving community — with an animated film that authentically represented the tale they know all too well."

"Batman: The Killing Joke" will premiere at the San Diego Comic Con later this year. It will also be available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
