'Better Call Saul' News, Spoilers: 'Breaking Bad' Characters in Season 3
As Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) edges closer to his transformation as alter ego Saul Goodman, characters from that other life, such as The Cousins (Daniel and Luis Moncada) and Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis), have been coming alive on "Better Call Saul" throughout last season. Still more faces from those "Breaking Bad" days are expected to appear in the upcoming third season of the series.
So far, though, not much is known as to which of those characters will be making cameos in season three. But some have been vocal about their interest to appear as their younger selves on the spin-off prequel "Better Call Saul" season three.
Among those characters said to be appearing in the next run of the show, the only one so far confirmed joining is Gustavo Fring, the baddest of the bads. The character was played by Giancarlo Esposito on "Breaking Bad," and the nature of his appearance is not yet clear. But his involvement on the series' next run was found out when some fans figured out a puzzle left by the show's writing staff.

Although the executive producers Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould had not counted on viewers working out puzzle clues season two had been handing out bit by bit every episode---at least not before they unveiled it---the dedicated fans were able to piece together the hint that Fring would indeed make some kind of appearance in season three. By re-arranging the first letters of the last season's episode titles, the fans came up with "FRINGSBACK."
Gould says on Vanity Fair, "I guess we really underestimated the genius and hard work of our fans."
Gilligan adds to that, pointing out, "And their attention to detail, and God bless them for it." He goes on to say that "just because Fring's back—technically speaking, if not literally—it doesn't mean that folks should assume that they'll see him at the beginning of Season 3. This is a character who is very circumspect. Very cautious. He does not reveal himself easily."
Two other characters may also be appearing on "Better Call Saul" season three. It is speculated that Jesse Pinkman and Marie Schrader may put in appearances, too. Pinkman is played by Aaron Paul while Schrader is portrayed by Betsy Brandt.
Paul tells Variety that his making a cameo on the show may be possible. "Hopefully I will be involved. But I don't know when that may be. I'm not going to say anything more. But I'm absolutely open to the idea. Hopefully it happens. I'm all about it."
Schrader almost made it to the season two finale of the show, but the writers and showrunners thought twice about doing it. Fans of "Breaking Bad" found out that Schrader was a radiologic technologist, and the plan had been to have her play that role when Chuck (Michael McKean) was undergoing a CAT scan. Her appearance on the scene was considered a distraction for the viewers. It may not be too late though to have her on the show.
Brandt herself is looking forward to that, saying, "I would come and do craft services if that's what they asked me to do ... There really is nothing that I wouldn't do. I would happily run into [Jimmy or Mike] in a pizza parlor."
Meantime, a twist in the story developed in the season two finale. When Jimmy made his confession to Chuck about the forged Mesa Verde documents, he did not realize that the latter had been recording all along and, thus, turned in his own brother.
Many are wondering if Chuck's act of disloyalty would be what would finally catapult Jimmy into becoming Goodman.
AMC has not announced the premiere date for the newest season of "Better Call Saul" as yet.
