Boston Bruins Injury News: Jonas Gustavsson Leaves Game with Undisclosed Illness

Tuesday's game against the Anaheim Ducks was a cause for concern for the Boston Bruins when goalie Jonas Gustavsson exited the game and later transferred to the hospital. Accordingly, he was already suffering from an undisclosed illness prior to the game, but he couldn't manage to finish it, going down in the first period.

Gustavsson is playing in his debut season with the Bruins, compiling a record of 9-3-1 so far. This game was supposed to be his second start in the last three games the team played. Before leaving, he already made 14 saves based on 16 shots. He later was replaced by Tuukka Rask, who managed to produce 19 saves, but couldn't lead his team to victory, with the Bruins succumbing to the Ducks pressure, 6-2.

The team later announced that he was transported to the Massachusetts General Hospital for further evaluation.
Gustavsson is a highly experienced goalie for the NHL, having previously played in Detroit for the Red Wings before transferring here in Boston. His premature exit to the game should be sufficient enough to think that there is a serious illness he may have been feeling already. The question is did he even disclose or talk about it with the team?

Bruins fans know for a fact that Gustavsson did battle a previously diagnosed heart condition, but was later revealed to be not life or career threatening. The Bruins did not provide any details whatsoever about his condition, leaving speculations of them also not having a clue of what really is going on. The 31-year-old underwent a couple of surgeries in order to repair an abnormal heart rhythm, but hasn't really been reported to have complications or signs of the problem after that.

Before playing for the Bruins, he already had stints with two other NHL teams in the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2010 and in 2011.
