Buffalo Bills Injury News: WR Percy Harvin Placed on Injured Reserve after Knee Injury

The Buffalo Bills said on Friday that WR Percy Harvin has been placed on the injured reserve after doctors found out that the player's knee injury flared up. The veteran will be out for the season and is likely going to see the end of his career as the Bills' wide receiver.

To compensate the loss of Harvin, the team activated reserve cornerback Leodis McKelvin, filling the spot to complete the 53-player roster. McKelvin himself spent time on the NFI list due to an ankle injury.

Harvin hasn't played a game in almost a month, plus the fact that he reportedly came in the season having hip problems in training camp. The team's decision to put him in injured reserve is warranted because he has surgery scheduled for this week to repair the injured knee. The report on the surgery was first revealed by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Rumors about Harvin's health first surfaced when he failed to travel with the team to London a month ago, although Coach Rex Ryan told the media that he had to attend to personal matters.

Ryan and wide receivers' coach Sanjay Lal were two reasons why Harvin joined the Bills last season. Lal was with him during their time with the New York Jets last year.

As for his Buffalo stint, the first round pick of the 2009 NFL Draft started the team's first five games, producing decent numbers — catching 19 passes good for 218 yards and a touchdown.

Harvin is going to be a free agent next year and putting him in IR means that he'll have plenty of time to rehabilitate and hopefully train hard to figure out if he still can play competitively. The wide receiver out of Florida still has a lot left in the tank at 27 years old, but how he can cope up with this setback will determine his future in the NFL.
