Bungie Admits 'Destiny 2' Players Were Banned For No Reason

After initially denying the reports that "Destiny 2" PC players are being banned for no reason, Bungie has finally admitted that some players were indeed banned for no reason. The developer has since overturned some of those decisions however they explained that those bans did not stem from the use of third-party software.

Following the launch of the game on the PC, Bungie reportedly banned approximately 400 players. According to them, these players were using tools that "pose a threat" to the shared ecosystem of the game.

Some players were shocked to see a message saying that they have been banned and a link to Bungie's ban webpage. In the page, they were told that bans are permanent and that there is no recourse for players due to the fact that they cannot dispute the ban.

However, this did not prevent players from flooding the game's official forum as well as the "Destiny" subreddit with complaints that they were banned for no apparent reason. Following the massive outcry from PC players, Bungie issued a statement explaining their bans.

In their statement, they said that "Destiny 2" itself cannot ban players automatically as only the developer has the ability and will only do so following a manual investigation. They also added that while some third-party software including screen overlays or performance monitors will be blocked by the game, they will not merit a ban.

Nevertheless, it appears that there were indeed some players who have been unjustly banned from the game. According to Bungie, they overturned four player bans but these originated during the game's beta phase, not during the game's PC launch which probably suggests that those 400 players deserved it.

While the details are still unclear at the moment, Bungie saying that only a member of a studio can ban players essentially contradicts the stories of players who say they were banned shortly after booting up the game on PC.

"Destiny 2" is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
