Bungie Removes Gauntlet That Shares Elements With Offensive Symbol From Destiny 2

Bungie has removed a gauntlet which contained designs which shared elements with an offensive symbol from "Destiny 2." While the developer did not specify which gauntlet it was, community members were quick to figure it out.

In a post on Twitter, the company stated that the gauntlet in question will be removed due to it resembling a hate symbol. In a subsequent post, the company also apologized for the incident adding that it does not represent their values.

The hate symbol in question is none other than the "Kekistan" flag which was recently classified a white supremacist symbol by many on the far-left. For those not in the know, "Kekistan" is an imaginary country invented by 4chan users to troll both the far-right and the far-left as a parody of identity politics and was popularized by Youtuber Sargon of Akkad.

The "Kekistanis" as they are known, adapted a version of a German Nazi flag swapping the red color for green symbolizing Pepe the Frog/KeK and replacing the swastika with their own symbol. These flags were often carried by alt-right protesters in their rallies alongside "Make America Great Again" flags and Confederate Flags.

Once the notification went out, members of the "Destiny 2" subreddit went to work to find out which gauntlet Bungie was talking about. After discovering the item in question, which featured the word "Kek" on its design, many aired their disappointment as a number of them use it on their characters. Many also seemed confused as to what was so hateful about the gauntlet that Bungie deemed it necessary to remove it from the game.

There are a number of gamers in the forums and subreddits who were opposed to the removal of the item not so much as the actual act but rather the reasons behind it. They feel that video games should not be involved in political discussion and developers should focus on making good games instead of appealing to "snowflakes."
